San Pablo: The death anniversary of the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was observed in a befitting manner at the San Pablo residence of Mr. K.B. Bhutto, President Pakistan Peoples Party California. A large number of PPP supporters traveled long distances to pay tributes to the founder of the Peoples party. He was remembered as a ‘great leader’ and as ‘the symbol of democracy’ in Pakistan.
Mr. Saleem Soomro, information secretary PPP California, formally started the proceedings by thanking the attendees for their presence in the meeting. Chaudhry Akram, advocate, followed him with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an. Dua was followed by an ajrak ceremony by Mrs. Najma Bhutto President Pakistan Peoples Party California (Ladies Wing). She said that “unfortunately we are far away from the tomb of our great leader otherwise we would have presented ajrak on his grave. But since distances do not matter the great leader is always with us in our hearts.” Mrs. Najma Bhutto, Mr. K.B.Bhutto and all party workers then placed an ajrak on the picture of the late Z. A. Bhutto. The large audience spiritedly raised slogans of ‘Zinda hae Bhutto, Zinda hae aur zinda rahe gaa.’ ‘Jeay Bhutto, Jeay Benazir’ slogans were also raised.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khwaja Ashraf said: “Bhutto was not only a person, he was an institution. He was not only a leader, he was a reformer. He was not only a great politician, he was the voice of the people of Pakistan. We all should follow his vision, we all should follow his footprints.”
Zahid Saif, senior vice president PPP California, observed: “We all salute the shaadat and greatness of our leader and his political insight. Military dictators in Pakistan are soon coming to an end.”
Chaudhry Akram Advocate, general secretary PPP California, speaking next recounted the political contribution of “our leader Shaeed Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto” and urged the restoration of true democracy in Pakistan.
Begum Sabira Farooq, secretary PPP California women wing, also paid glowing tributes to the late Mr Bhutto. His biggest achievement, she said, was the 1973 Constitution and the pursuit of nuclear power status for Pakistan.
Finally, Mr. K.B. Bhutto, president PPP California, came on the stage to make his observations: “InshaAllah, we will continue the mission of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto under the leadership of Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto,” he resolved. He also read a message of Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto on the occasion.
