Glimpses of the convention

Chicago: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chicago Unit organized the 10th annual three-day convention from July 22 – July 24 at the Clarion Hotel O’Hare. Designated members and workers from 16 cities of North America participated in the convention.
The convention started with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an. The proceedings included a Tarbiyati Nishist which provided a forum to debate current political and international developments. A new Tanzimi structure was also discussed.
The second day of the convention begand with the Units Ijlas. Each unit presented a yearly performance report and the agenda for the next year. Central organizer Ibad Ur Rehman and caretaker of North America Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui complimented and honored the Chicago workers for arranging the successful convention. They specially recognized international affairs coordinator Yonus Suleman, central organizing committee member Shamim Siddiqui and Chicago unit incharge Junaid Fahmi for their performance and hard work.
A number of seminars were also held during the convention spotlighting women’s role in politics and other subjects. Mayor of Village of Robbins Irene H. Brodie, Managing Partner Eneri Communications Ms. Irene Cualoping, Congressman Danny K Davis and Mayor of Evergreen Park James J Sexton also attended the convention. Quaid-e- Tehrik Altaf Hussain also addressed the convention via telephone directly from London. He congratulated the workers for arranging a successful, informative and impressive convention. He said Islam is a religion of peace and rejected any linkage between terrorism and Islam.
A mushaira was held on the second day of the convention. Urdu Times columnist Syed Anjum Gohar and Mansoor Usmani were entrusted the task of nizamat of the poetry reading. The poets presenting their kalam included Janab Agha, Ali Qaiser Taqwi, Rasheed Sheikh, Jazib Qureshi, Nighat Naseem, Dr. Rahat Indori, and Professor Waseem Barailwi.
