Honored: Forty Years of Service

Dr. Ghulam M. Haniff, Professor of Political Science, St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN was recently honored at an awards ceremony in recognition of forty years of service to his university and the State of Minnesota.
The award, given during the convocation week at which Provost Dr. Michael Spitzer officiated, was presented by Dr. Ray Saigo, the President. The honoring of the long time professor was accompanied by standing ovation in a crowded, standing room only hall.
Dr. Haniff is believed to be the first and only Muslim with four decades of service to his institution and the state in Minnesota.
During his long career Dr. Haniff worked on a variety of causes and served on numerous important committees. He was president of St. Cloud State University Faculty Association, chair of the Faculty Senate and negotiator for the faculty union.
His academic tenure included activism besides research and writing papers. In the larger community he forcefully advocated Muslim involvement in American politics and civic affairs.
Dr. Haniff has been associated with MSA, ISNA, AMSS and the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy since their founding. He continues to be active in several state and national organizations. Occasionally he writes for Pakistan Link.
