Dr. Mohammad Hamid
to Visit Southern California
Dr. Mohammad Hamid, Cofounder and Chairman
of the Board of Directors of the Hamdard Center for Health
and Human Services, a not-for-profit multilingual, multicultural
community-based health and social service agency, based
in Chicago, Illinois, will be visiting Southern California
early November.
Dr. Hamid and his late wife, Dr. Farzana Hamid (she sadly
passed away late February) founded the first not-for-profit
health and human services center specifically tailored to
meet the unmet needs of diverse immigrant populations in
the Chicago area. Dr. Hamid currently serves as the agency’s
executive director pro bono. He has twenty-five years of
extensive administrative and clinical experience as director
of a 250-bed Community Psychiatric Services at the Elgin
Mental Health Center, Elgin, Illinois. There, he also served
as director of clinical services of a 300-bed Forensic Treatment
Program.
Dr. Hamid holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Aligarh
University, Aligarh, India.
Since its inception in 1992, Dr. Hamid has been providing
overall supervision and coordination of the center’s
programs and services. The Center has now grown into a multi-service
agency and currently employs forty professional and paraprofessional
staff and more than fifty volunteers. It provides an array
of clinically focused, culturally tailored services to the
most vulnerable members of the South Asian, Middle Eastern,
and Bosnian communities, majority of whom are Muslims --
although it does not exclude the general population.

California scheduled around the first week of November.
He is available for discussions, news interviews as well
as meetings with community groups to share his agency’s
experience in developing culturally competent and protocol
compliant programs for underserved communities.
