Torrance, LA: Monday, the 10th of April 2006 turned out to be the day when the masses were told about the blessing that came upon the universe in the august person of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him). The occasion was the celebration of Eid-i-Milad-un-Nabi at Momin Lodge, Torrance, California.
Dr. Hasan Uddin Hashmi, the caretaker of Momin Lodge, has made sustained strivings over the years in bringing together lovers of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to celebrate the day. Recitations from the Holy Quran, Hamd-e-Allah Ta'ala, Naat-e-Rasool (salallahoalaihewasalam), speeches on the life of the Prophet, salat, darood, salam, and dua are the essential features of the day. The turnout is impressive and this year too about 1000 devotees joined in the celebration of the auspicious day.
Dr. Hashmi emceed the event and called naat readers and speakers to the stage to highlight various aspects of the life of our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him). Mohammad Anwar, Mohammad Rashid, sister Maher Alvi, sister Naghmana, and brother Abuzar recited Naat-e-Rasul and Hamd-e-Ta’ala. It was a most impressive sight with the audience spiritedly joining them in the recital of the Hamd and Naat. The love for the Prophet was manifestly evident.

Sheikh Rabih Usman described the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) as a messiah for mankind . “God created earth and heaven without Muhammed (peace be upon him) but He knew for whom they were conceived,” he told the audience.
Dr Meher Hathout told the gathering that our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) was sent to this earth for three reasons. To present the teachings of the Holy Qur’an, a book of God whose vibrant language proves that it couldn’t be written by any human being. Secondly, to demonstrate tolerance in the face of great provocation and the messenger of God prove what is required to be truly just. Thirdly, to provide a complete code of life affecting the social system, law, education, and every aspect of life.

Dr. Ahmed Sakr was critical of those people who do not say peace be upon the Prophet Muhammad when they refer to him. Such people don’t realize that the whole universe came into existence because of Prophet Mohammed. He also enlightened the audience on the admirable qualities of the of Prophet (peace be upon him) and asked them to follow them in letter and spirit.
Dr. Hasan Uddin Hashmi offered salam and it turned out to be the most captivating part of the evening’s proceedings.
