A Dedicated Urdu Lover Passes Away

San Jose, CA: Mr. Harbans Singh Sachdev, a long time resident of San Jose and an ardent Urdu lover, passed away on January 21, 06. Although a Sikh, Mr. Sachdev was very well versed in the Urdu language, both spoken and written. He could recite numerous Urdu poems, ghazals, and couplets by well-known poets, including Allama Iqbal, just by memory. He always attended all local mushairas and Urdu related program in spite of old age and frail health and demonstrated his talent in such gatherings.
Mr. Sachdev had a very large circle of Pakistani and Indian friends and was deeply respected by all. He will be greatly missed in Urdu related programs.
His funeral services were held on Thursday, January 26. May his soul rest in peace. The Sachdev family can be contacted at 408-927-6248 if you wish to offer condolences.
