Lakewood, CA: A spirited
call for community unity was given by Consul General Syed
Ibne Abbas at a Friends of Pakistan function at the Shahnawaz
Restaurant on September 16, 2006.
The Consul General’s voice resonated in the glittering
Banquet Hall as he emphasized with manifest force and conviction
what prominent community activist Abubakr Vakil had stated
a few minutes earlier. “Aainda ittehad ka
muzahira kiya jaegae,” CG
Abbas resolved as he urged the community members to hold one
single function in Los Angeles to celebrate Pakistan Independence
Day in the year 2007.
CG Abbas also concurred with Dr Firoz who earlier had observed,
“United we
stand, divided we fall.”
The Consul General paid
glowing tributes to members of the Pakistan American community.
“Koi moqa aesa nahin jata jab Sadr aur Wazirae
Azam sahib aap ka zikr na karate houn,” he
stated. Whenever the two talk about Pakistan and Pakistan’s
future they can’t help mentioning the expatriate community,
especially Pakistanis living in the US who have supported
national strivings with exemplary zeal and unfailing consistency.
“Jo kuch aap kae barae maen suna tha aap ko oos
sae ziyada paya,” he told the Los Angeles community.
The
Consul General exhorted the community to invest in Pakistan
and to participate in mainstream politics in the United States.
The
function was organized by Friends of Pakistan to accord recognition
to its team of volunteers, who under the stewardship of its
President Sarfaraz Khan, had put up a spectacular show while
celebrating the Pakistan Independence Day at the sprawling
Exposition Park in Los Angeles on August 12. The FOP volunteers
and office -bearers were profusely applauded by FOP President
Sarfraz Khan and community members present in the Shahnawaz
Restaurant Banquet Hall that evening.
The September 16 event was also held to accord a befitting
welcome to Consul General Ibne Abbas who has recently taken
charge of his diplomatic assignment.
In his concluding remarks, CG Abbas complimented Mr. Dara
Khan of Shahnawaz Restaurant for not only serving delicious
food but also acting as the hub of laudable community activities.
