APPNA Strongly Condemns Attack on Dr. Amna Buttar

The Association of Physicians of Pakistani-Descent of North America (APPNA) has condemned the attack on Dr Amna Buttar. A member of APPNA. In a press statement APPNA stated: Dr Amna Buttar, a life member of APPNA, was injured due to the deplorable action of the law enforcing agencies in Pakistan. The incident took place when she was protesting peacefully against the removal of Chief Justice in Pakistan.
“The membership of APPNA enjoys, and stands for, democratic values, freedom and fruits of a free and fair civil society. Dr. Amna Buttar is an active member of APPNA. She has brought Pakistan's civil right issues to the forefront and raised our awareness of a wide range of un-civilized incidents and practices that have plagued the Pakistani society.
“This atrocity committed by the leaders of our motherland has enraged the membership of APPNA. We strongly urge the Government of Pakistan to take notice of this incident, and take action to bring the responsible persons to justice.
“It is appalling to see the Judiciary system in Pakistan being targeted, their independence and free speech curtailed and stifled by the very people who were supposed to uphold the rule of law and due process.
“We as members of a civilized and democratic society expect and demand that the Government of Pakistan respects and upholds the basic civic rights of all Pakistanis.” the press release concluded.
