The wedding reception of Aisha Aslam, daughter of Saghir and Bushra Aslam, at the Irvine Marriot on November 22 2007 was an event of joy and merriment not only for the pretty bride and her dashing bridegroom, and members of the couple’s immediate families, but for the entire gathering of invitees present in the hotel’s glittering banquet hall on the occasion. The bride and groom made a handsome couple as they walked in the hall to the accompaniment of spontaneous clapping by the invitees who included prominent community members, interfaith groups, leading entrepreneurs, and eminent religious scholars. The bridegroom Ahmad Al Mutawa, son of Bader and Shadya Al Mutawa of Kuwait, was dressed in the traditional Pakistani sherwani and was a picture of grace. Aisha appeared entrancing in her bridal attire. Dr Muzammil Siddiqi of the Islamic Society of Orange County and Dr Sadullah Khan of the Islamic Society of Irvine who graced the occasion also addressed the gathering. Their observations were brief but scintillating. Both recalled their association with the Saghir Aslam family and prayed for the long life and happiness of the newly married couple. Quite a few friends of the bride and groom added to the gaiety of the occasion while Mr. Mahboob Akhtar admirably emceed the lively proceedings. Mr. Saghir Aslam, a man of great enterprise who has rendered multifarious services for the betterment of the community, and his wife Bushra appeared visibly happy on the occasion. The couple’s Saba Trust has launched many schemes for improving the lot of the underprivileged in the US and Pakistan. The Trust played a singular role in rehabilitating the October 8 quake victims in the northern parts of Pakistan and, more recently, has been successful in establishing a full-fledged orphanage in association with APPNA in the quake-ravaged area. Like her devoted parents, Aisha too has rendered valuable community services and has figured prominently in many ISOC, CAIR and Islamic Relief undertakings. She wields a facile pen and has filed quite a few reports for Pakistan Link. The President and Editor of the paper wish her the best for the future.
