Pakistani-Americans Demand Restoration of Constitution, Judiciary

Chicago, Illinois:  A number of Pakistani-American organizations including Coalition of Pakistani American Organizations Chicago, Indus Society, Kashmiri American Solidarity, Pakistan American Democratic Dialogue, Pakistan American Democratic Forum, Pakistan Christian Association. Pakistan Muslim League (N), Pakistan Peoples Party, and Sindhi Association of America, have urged General (R) Pervaiz Musharraf to read the writing on the wall and resign. “Now that the people have spoken, he must leave”. 
A six-point resolution introduced by the representative of Pakistan American Democratic Forum’s was unanimously approved and adopted by the above nine organizations.
The text of the resolution follows:
WE demand that the
 1. The 1973 constitution of Pakistan must be restored to status quo ante October 12, 1999.

  • All of the sixty plus Judges, including the chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who resigned in protest or who were dismissed because they refused to take oath under Musharaff's second PCO must be reinstated.
  • All new orders, procedures and rules including the PEMRA Order 2007 and the Code of Conduct, introduced to curb the independence of the media in the past few months must be immediately rescinded.
  • General (R) Pervaiz Musharraf must respect the democratic mandate and resign immediately. 
  • The incoming democratic government must also institute an independent commission to inquire into the murders of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Nawab Akbar Bughti and hundreds of others killed in mob violence.  
  • The incoming democratic government must mobilize all its resources to stop Interference by foreign agencies and governments into the internal affairs of Pakistan;
