Urdu Link’s Columnist Launches Book at Glittering Karachi Ceremony

Travelogues make fascinating reading. “Around the World in Eighty Days” cast a spell on the readers for many, many years. It still does with Mr. Fogg’s wager and adventurous exploits having an undying appeal for lovers of books and literature.
Of late, travelogues have become increasingly absorbing and informative. They are much more than simple narratives of travel or adventure. They are a treasure trove of information. Mr Qamar Ali Abbasi’s travel accounts fall in the same category.
Mr Abbasi, who regularly writes a column for Urdu Link, has made a name as a writer of travelogues. His latest book  “Saat Sitarae Sehra Maen” was recently launched in Karachi at a colorful ceremony attended by leading literary figures, prominent community members, senior journalists, and the elite of the city.
Lt. General (Retd.) Moinuddin Haider presided over the function. Mr Shujaat Ali Baig, Education Minister, Sindh was the chief guest. The speakers included Mahmood Sham, Anwar Maqsood, Haseena Moin, Dost Mohammad Faizi, Athar Shah Khan, and Arif Mansuri, President PL Publications and Managing Editor, Pakistan and Urdu Link who was on a visit to Pakistan.
The speakers paid rich tributes to the literary genius of Mr Qamar Ali Abbasi. Lt. General Moinuddin Haider was particularly appreciative of the contents of “Saat Sitarae Sehra Maen.”
In his brief remarks, Mr Arif Mansuri informed the gathering of the services of the Los Angeles-based Urdu Writers Society in the promotion of Urdu in North America. Mr Mansuri, who is the Vice President of the Society, informed the audience that Mr Qamar Ali Abbasi was the recipient of the $ 5000 award instituted by the Society last year. He assured the gathering of the Society’s continuing support for the promotion of Urdu in North America.
The Rasheed Omar Thanvi Gold Medal was awarded to Qasim Jalalvi, Uzra Rasool, Manzar Ayubi and Dr  Farman Fatahpuri.
