AMT’s GOTV Plan Galvanizes Muslim Voters
By Hazem Kira

In a recent article, MSNBC journalist Karl HUUS has perceptively observed: “Never before have the stakes seemed so high for Muslim Americans.”  Yet, what he has left underemphasized is the corrective taken by leading Muslim organizations to fix this problem.

The American Muslim Taskforce on Civil Rights and Elections (AMT***), the umbrella group representing 12 major Muslim organizations, has recommended the following steps to ensure largest Muslim voter turnout.

Maximize the Muslim Voter Turnout: While experts expect a US-wide larger-than-usual, up to 60%, voter turnout on Nov 4, the AMT is urging Muslim Americans to achieve 90% voter turnout. That will enhance the impact of the Muslim vote by 50%, which could be decisive in battleground states.

  1. Purposeful Voting: Support those candidates who support civil liberties, world peace, universal healthcare, better education, a fair immigration policy and social justice. In sum, Vote for the Constitution.

  1. Vote Full Ballot: The five levels of government (federal, state, county, city, and special districts) are all interconnected, therefore, don’t limit your vote to the presidential ticket only.

  1. Be Voter-Activist:  Remind, encourage and help others to vote. To that end, phone bank and be willing to provide transportation.

PHONEBANKING: All you need is your cell phone, a quiet corner and a list of friends, family members and acquaintances. For more information, visit www.AmericanMuslimVoter.Net.
