McCain, Obama Congratulate Zardari

Lahore: United States Republican presidential candidate John McCain telephoned Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday and congratulated him on his success in the presidential election, Geo News reported on Sunday.
McCain assured Zardari that the US would continue Pakistan’s economic support in the future. The two leaders also discussed matters of mutual interest.
OBAMA:: United States Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama has congratulated President-elect Asif Ali Zardari on his election as president, praising his commitment to returning powers appropriated unconstitutionally from the Presidency to the parliament.
“I congratulate Asif Ali Zardari on his election as president of Pakistan. I am glad to hear of his pledge to return this office to its traditional stature, and return to parliament the powers unconstitutionally appropriated to the presidency,” Obama said in a statement.
Obama welcomed the government’s move on the restoration of judges. “I am also glad to hear of the reinstatement of several sacked judges,” he said.
