A Pakistan Link Report

First death anniversary of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto is observed in California

The first death anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhuttto who was assassinated on December 27, 2007 was observed at the residence of Mr. Ali Asghar in the city of Antioch, California. A large number of PPP California office bearers, including Mr. K.B. Bhutto President, Mrs. Najma Bhutto President Ladies' Wing, Mrs. Sabira Secretary General, Mr. Zahid Saif Secretary General, and Vice Presidents Mr. Sohail Ahmed and Mr. Khalil Ahmed, Additional General Secretary Ali Asghar, M. Rais Khan, M. Saleem, M. D.  Khalid and M. Liaqat were amongst the members and well-wishers attending.

In his opening speech Mr. Zaid Saif paid a glowing tribute to the late Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir and enlightened the gathering on her life devoted to the service of the people of Pakistan. Shaheed Benazir had sacrificed her life to restore democracy in Pakistan, he said. He spiritedly claimed that a dictator was forced to go only because of the success of the movement launched by  the PPP under the leadership of the late Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Mr. K. B. Bhutto, in his keynote speech, said that leaders like the late Mohtarma are rare in history. They give a vision to the people of their country. K.B. Bhutto submitted that he had worked very closely  with Shaheed Mohtarma  Benazir Bhutto and could say with a great deal of conviction that Mohtarma came to this world to continue the mission of  her late father Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who had a vision of Pakistan living with respect and honor. Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto fought against dictatorship and never bowed before dictators of the worst kind. Inspired by her great father Mohtarma went through the agony of living in exile for eight years.  Her commitment to democracy came first, said K.B. in closing. She returned home though she was fully alive to the fact that her life was at stake and so was her country.

Dr. Malik Q. Awan, Senior Vice President of PPP who could not attend the event due to his pre-occupations, addressed the participants via telephone. He said Pakistan's history reveals that the leadership of late Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had sowed the seed of democracy in Pakistan by giving to the nation the Constitution of 1973 which was unanimously adopted. Dr. Malik said that that Pakistan is going through a political and  financial crisis today. Had Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir been alive, she would  have resolved all  outstanding issues .
At the end prayers were offered for the departed soul of Shaheed Mohtarma  Benazir Bhutto Sahiba .
