Karachi Club’s New President


Los Angeles , CA: An ad hoc committee met here 12 April 2009 to give impetus to the Karachi Club activities and made some changes in the leadership, says a Press Release. It adds:

Mr. Mobin Baig, one of the founding members and the first President, would assume responsibility as the new president of Karachi Club, Los Angeles. Mr. Samin Faruqui who has served as the President of the Club for the last five years would be taking up other responsibilities in the areas where he is most needed.  But, he will continue to serve as Nigran California. 

During his five-year tenure, Mr Samin Faruqui dedicated all his time to help the Club maintain its original spirit and philosophy of community interaction.  A true Karachiite and an established activist, Mr.Samin never hesitated to enhance the image of Pakistan and Karachi in particular.  Under his leadership the Karachi Club continued to embark on community programs and staged various cultural and social activities.

The Indo-Pak Yakjehti Mushaira under the aegis of Gahwara-e-Adab, LA is one of the highlights of his tenure while the talk of the town ‘Annual Haleem’ continued to attract Pakistanis from all walks of life. Mr.Samin Faruqi ascended to the level of the most popular community activist earning lifetime achievement award from community leaders, not to mention similar recognition from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.

Mr. Mobin Baig, not an unfamiliar face among expatriate Pakistanis, a founding member and first president of the Club, helped raise awareness in the community through his writing and activism and understands the Karachi Club’s mission and goals.  He would synergize the collective efforts of other Pakistani social organizations in achieving common goals.  A plethora of the Club’s activities will be announced in the press and on its website soon.
