Suhail Khan: A Harbinger of the Future
By C. Naseer Ahmad

Suhail Khan

“ The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams, ” said Eleanor Roosevelt. She knew what she was talking about. After all, she was married to the man – FDR - who along with his team-helped turn some beautiful dreams into reality. America is more beautiful today because of those dreams.

As a harbinger of future, Suhail Khan is leading the way. With his creative mind and gentle manners, Suhail is proving everyday that the future belongs to young Muslims like him, who imagine the endless possibilities in the United States for those who play by the rules, building alliances across political, racial and religious divisions. Young leaders like him demonstrate the best of both worlds – unabashedly inculcating the rich traditions of the immigrant parent generation and absorbing all the goodness to march into the future with gusto.

Suhail is a Senior Fellow for Christian-Muslim Understanding at the Institute for Global Engagement – a Washington area think tank. During a lunch at the National Press Club, he communicated that without understanding the issues it is hard for anyone to comprehend the future possibilities. He is an engaging leader with much promise.

Graduating from the University of Berkley and later with a law degree from the University of Iowa, Suhail launched his professional career with stellar achievements. He served as Policy Director and Press Secretary for US Congressman Tom Campbell. Information available about Suhail Khan from the Wikipedia not only demonstrates his achievements but also prove that young leaders like him know how to harness the technology for better tomorrows. For example, a Wikipedia page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suhail_A._Khan) on Suhail Khan states that “ after the 2000 elections, he aided the White House Office of Public Liaison in the President’s outreach to the conservative, think-tank, military and veteran and Asian-American communities. He served as Assistant to the Secretary for Policy under U.S. Secretary Mary Peters at the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he was awarded the Secretary’s Team Award in 2005 and the Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievement in 2007.”

Suhail is politically active and has a busy life. He serves on the Board of Directors for the American Conservative Union, the Indian American Republican Council, the Islamic Free Market Institute, and on the interfaith Buxton Initiative Advisory Council, and still serves on the Board of the American Conservative Union. Furthermore, he speaks regularly at conferences and venues such as the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the Council for National Policy (CNP), the Harbour League, and the National Press Club. Suhail has contributed to a number of publications also.

Suhail has often appeared on talk shows. He was interviewed by Pastor Bob Roberts of Dallas , Texas , where he discussed Muslim-Christian interaction and his experience serving in the White House, and has appeared on MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show as a conservative commenter.

Professionals like Suhail prove time and again that the future is not for the angry evil doers like Faisal Shahzad and Major Haddad. Progressive young leaders like Suhail have the requisite gumption to lead others towards a brighter world.
