COPAA to Work for Realization of Five Goals for Pakistan’s Development

Los Angeles , CA: COPAA hosted Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon, recently on his visit to California, says a Press Release. It adds: COPAA held a press conference and arranged a tour of the Sheriff's Department and LAPD.

The LAPD Chief apprised the Ambassador of the iWatch program, which COPAA has endorsed and helped launch.

The Ambassador was visibly pleased with the collaboration between COPAA and the governmental agencies to protect Pakistani Americans. Later, the Ambassador along with COPAA President, Mr. Adnan Khan, board members and advisors, had lunch with the LA Sheriff, Lee Baca.
COPAA Advisor, Mr.Qaisar Madad, and his wife, Dr.Tabatabai hosted a  dinner for the Ambassador to meet and interact with the community and LAPD. At the dinner, the Ambassador honored the services rendered by the Late Ahmed Adaya and presented an award to his wife, Mrs. Amina Adaya. The Ambassador also awarded Dr. Meher Tabatabai, for her services to Pakistan and excellence in leadership.
In his speech, the Ambassador highlighted the importance of education in Pakistan's future development. He recalled the services of his ancestors for the creation of Pakistan and stated that he is returning to the country to save it from ruin, if he could.  
He stated his goals for a prosperous Pakistan which included the eradication of corruption which is a major threat to Pakistan. He asked COPAA to join hands in working towards five important goals:
1. Educating the masses ( India is building 700 universities and Pakistan none).
2. Negotiating peace between India and Pakistan - solving the Kashmir issue.
3. Solving the water shortage problem which may kill 5-10% of Pakistanis if it's not addressed properly.
4. Promoting development: building water reservoirs, power plants, harvesting wind energy, and importing coal technology from the US.

5. Developing good neighborly relations with China, India, Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan,

  Link’s Staff Reporter adds: A United Nations Award was presented to Mr. Zafar Abbas, Bureau Chief, Urdu Times, by Ambassador Haroon in recognition of his services to the community and his multifarious journalistic achievements. Zafar has over the years endeared himself to all and sundry in the community with his pleasing manners, affable nature, and splendid coverage of local events.  He is also active in the local literary circles and has made his mark as a poet.

Zafar is the son of the late Farigh Bukhari, a very well-known and respected poet, writer and translator of Pushto literature. The late Mr Bukhari was a prominent political figure of Pakhtunkhwan province and had a long association with Progressive writers like Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Ahmad Nasim Qasmi and Sibte Hasan. Zafar has taken after his father: he is well versed in Persian, Pushto, Hindko and Urdu languages and is well known as a journalist and poet. He is greatly liked and admired by members of the community.
