Rehana Qamar’s Recovery from Fall Celebrated

Well-known Urdu poetess, Rehana Qamar, fell from the 12-foot balcony of her house in Riverside and suffered serious, multiple backbone injuries. After a couple of crucial surgeries and several physical therapy sessions, Rehana recovered miraculously from the injuries which at one stage appeared life-threatening.

Urdu Times Bureau Chief Zafar Abbas and Farah invited a few friends recently to celebrate the “Jashn-e-Sehetyabi of Rehana Qamar” at their Downey residence.

Rehana is a famous poetess and has published six collections of poetry in Urdu . She is recognized as a distinctly new voice in feminine poetry in Pakistan and India. She is also known for arranging well-attended literary, social and musical functions in the Los Angeles area for a long time.

The Jashn was attended by the Acting Consul General Dr. Khalid Ijaz, Mr.Arif Mansuri of Pakistan Link, Mr. Anwar Khawaja of Urdu Link and Mr. Dara Khan of Shawnawaz Restaurant After a sumptuous dinner and homemade “Qulfee” by Mrs. Farah Zafar, Rehana cut her :sehetyabi cake” and recited some very beautiful ghazals. A number of poets, including. Majid Akhtar, Asifa Nishat, Irfan Murtaza, Attiya Niazi, and Zafar Abbas also recited their poetry. At the end the guests were served with Peshawari Qehwa, a reminder of an old tradition of the Bukhari family in Pakistan.
