Thank ‘The View’ Hosts for Refuting Anti-Muslim Remarks

Los Angeles , CA : The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) on Oct 14 asked American Muslims and other people of conscience to thank “The View” co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar for speaking out when their show’s guest, Bill O’Reilly, made anti-Muslim remarks.

In the episode of “The O’Reilly Factor” host Bill O’Reilly discussed the president’s approval ratings and called the location of Park 51, a Muslim community center two blocks from Ground Zero, “inappropriate.”

When asked by Goldberg and Behar why the location was “inappropriate,” O’Reilly said, “Because Muslims killed us on 9/11.” Goldberg and Behar argued that O’Reilly’s remarks unfairly blame all Muslims for the actions of extremists and left the stage in protest.

“We commend Ms. Goldberg and Ms. Behar for their courage and leadership in forcefully speaking out against Islamophobic comments that have unfortunately either gone unaddressed in mainstream discourse or been promoted by pundits like O’Reilly,” said CAIR-LA Communications Manager Munira Syeda. “ America’s celebrities and politicians have a unique platform to consistently and publicly affirm our founding values of inclusion and equality.”
