Glimpses of the fundraising dinner organized by Helping Hand for Relief and Development in California

CA: On December 11, 2010, Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) organized a ‘Rebuilding Lives Fundraising Dinner’ in California to raise funds for the flood victims of Pakistan.

The information for the dinner was ‘marketed and promoted in the community through every avenue possible,’ says a press release. ‘For those who could not make it to the event, we ask them to make a pledge or donation to add to the final tally. We aimed to get an attendance of approximately 100 people, which was met Alhamdulillah. At registration and reception we collected tickets and took the contact information of the attendees. We started at our scheduled time as people slowly filled the seats... The setting was a very classy banquet hall, namely, the New Aashiyana Restaurant with formal décor and proper sound and presentation’ facilities.

‘The Emergency Pakistan Flood Victim’s program transitioned beautifully between presentations, dinner and fundraising. Sr. Soha Yassine admirably hosted the event with great articulation of Helping Hand USA’s efforts and identity. Br. Shahid Hussain gave an insightful history of Helping Hand USA and its ongoing programs.’ Br. Ashar Shah highlighted HHRD’s efforts in the Pakistan Flood Relief program citing statistics, emergency response and long-term goals of Helping Hand USA.

After a very satisfying dinner, Amir Abdel Malik gave an inspiring speech. Following closing remarks by Sr. Soha and Br. Ashar, the guests prayed Isha and mingled with the organizers for over an hour before finally exiting the hall at 10pm. ‘We intend to follow up with the pledges this week and also thank the attendees for coming to support the cause,’ says the press release.
