Urdu Circle of North America, Pakistan Link, Express News TV and IQRA’ Celebrate an Evening with Kaleem Aajiz

A very graceful evening was celebrated at IQRA’ International Educational Foundation last Saturday to recognize the contribution of the great poet of this era, Mohtarram Kaleem Aajiz. IQRA’s Conference Hall was packed to capacity with Urdu lovers.

The first session was conducted by this scribe. Dr. Abidullah Ghazi introduced Mr. Kaleem Aajiz and shed light on his poetry and academic achievements. Dr. Muzzafar Farooqi also enlightened the audience about the great contribution of Kaleem Aajiz to the literary world. Mirza Haseeb Beg presented Kaleem Aajiz’s poetry in his melodious voice. Mr. Kaleem Aajiz spoke on the life and work of Allama Iqbal.

The second session was dedicated to poetry. Ameen Haider, the recognized host of mushairas in Chicago, masterly conducted this session. Poetries were presented by Mr. Hamid Amrohi, this scribe, Mr. Lateef Saif, Mr. Hashmat Sohail, Mr. Sajid Choudhry, Dr. Abidullah Ghazi, and Mr. Niaz Gulbergvi, who presided over the session, and Kaleem Aajiz.

Mr. Ayaz Ali, who was instrumental in organizing the event, also spoke on the occasion.

The event was organized by Urdu Circle of North America with Pakistan Link, Express News TV and IQRA’ as cosponsors.

 

Stars Join Pakistani Americans to Raise Funds for Flood Victims

Star studded Carnivale in downtown Chicago was the venue of an impressive fundraiser organized by The Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs (OPEN), a voluntary, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of entrepreneurship in the Pakistani-American business community. Established in Boston in 1998, OPEN has chapters in Houston, New York, Silicon Valley, Boston and Washington DC.

The venue was packed with local stars, diplomats, entrepreneurs, social and political activists to support the flood victims of Pakistan. The masters of ceremony, Fawzia Mirza, a Pakistani-Canadian-American Muslim actor and Adam Guerino, a Chicago-based national comedian, producer, columnist and cartoonist did a great job by keeping the crowd involved in the fundraising. Nabeela Rasheed, a local Pakistani-American activist filled in from time to time to motivate the crowd. “Glee” fame Pakistani-American actor Iqbal Theba, “The Daily Show” fame Pakistani-American comedian Aasif Mandvi and Hollywood movie and television actor Faran Tahir also spoke to the audience to support the great cause.

Pakistan ’s Consul General in Chicago Hon. Zaheer Pervez Khan and Commercial Attaché Asad Hyauddin were also among the audience.

The secretary of OPEN Ruma Samdani put up a lot of effort in organizing the fundraiser. She got the support of lot of volunteers and the leadership of Chicago-based Pakistani and Muslim organizations.

 

Pakistani-American Physicians Welcome Community Members who Perform Hajj

A reception was hosted in honor of the recent Hajj pilgrims Dr. and Mrs. Imtiaz Arain, Dr. Samina and Dr. Haseena at Lal Qila Restaurant in Palatine. Drs. Mansoor Alam and Aisha Mansoor with Dr. Saroor Alam and his wife Huma were the hosts of this event. A large number of Pakistani-American physicians and members of the local Pakistani community graced the occasion. The Hajjees shared the spiritual experience with the audience.
