Ninth Annual APPNA STL Winter  Meeting

The Ninth Annual APPNA STL Winter   Meeting was held at the Double Tree Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 8.

Most members of the community of Pakistani physicians in the area participated in the meeting and enjoyed every moment of it.

The emcee of the event was Dr Umair Ali, Secretary, APPNA STL. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr Athar Naeem, chairman of the host committee. The financial report was presented by Hasan Ali H. Ahmed and, for the first time in the nine-year history of APPNA STL, the balance was in the positive thanks to Manzoor Tariq ($9000) and Zafar Quader for arranging sponsors.

Naseem Shekhani, President of APPNA STL Chapter, addressed the meeting and spotlighted the major events during the year, especially a picnic, a food drive, and a blood donation drive with health screening, and last but not least, the  APPNA Physician Volunteer hours donated for the APPNA STL FREE CLINIC that approximated over 300 hours.

The Executive Committee for the year 2013 was announced. It consists of Shahid Badar (President), Umair Ali (President-elect), Hasan Ali Habib (Secretary), Hashim Raza (Treasurer) and two members at large: Firasat Chaudhary and Danish Hasan.  New Board of Trustee member will be Manzoor Tariq for the next 5 years.  Dr. Shahid Badar, President-elect, announced the names of the award winners. The non-physician winners were Abdul Wadood and Imdad Adil. The physicians who won the awards were M.Haseeb, Zia Ahmed, Nadeem Ahmed, Mohammad Tahir,  and dental surgeon El-Safi. The lifetime achievement award was given to Dr. Noor Ahmed who got a standing ovation as he got on the stage.. 

APPNA FREE clinic presentation was made by Mujtaba Qazi and Manzoor Tariq (President of Board of the Clinic). Reports about patient care and finances were presented. Approximately 15-20 patients are given medical treatment in the clinic every Sunday. 

A raffle draw, arranged by Harris BMO Bank, followed. The Mediterranean food served on the occasion was simply delectable. A musical function featuring Tehsin Javed from Pakistan was highly entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed by the attendees. The event ended at midnight.

Umair Ali finally thanked all the attendees.
