Thank Journalists Who Portray Community in Accurate Manner

A letter spewing bigotry against the Arab culture that was posted on Ventura County Star’s website earlier this week was removed after concerns from community members and CAIR-LA.

The Opinions Page Editor Mike Craft stated: “I reviewed the letter and found it inappropriate, so I had it removed. I also spoke with the staffers responsible for pulling in emailed letters and posting them on The Star’s website, pointing out the problems with the letter.”

The editor also assured that the newspaper’s “opinion page makes every effort to exclude letters that attack or demean any minority group from our newspages or our website.”

CAIR-LA had issued an alert urging community members to express their concerns with the newspaper about the online letter that portrayed Arabs as inherently dishonest and deceitful and advised readers to get to know “foreign cultures.”

“It is important to remain vigilant not only about disparaging material published against American Muslims but also remember to thank reporters and editors who make efforts to portray our community in an accurate manner,” said CAIR-LA Communications Manager Munira Syeda.
