Glum Community Recalls Hamid’s Multifarious Services

 

Council of Pakistan American Affairs: “With deep sorrow, shock and gloom it is announced --- that our friend Hamid Malik passed away May 23rd at the Hoag Medical Center in Newport Beach (Inna-Lillah-e-wa-Inna-Alaih-e-Rajaoon),“ says a press release issued by the Council of Pakistan American Affairs (COPAA).

“ … Hamid Bhai was loved by all and hated by none for his sincerity, generosity, and down to earth personality. He will live in the hearts of people as a loving, caring, honest, truthful (individual) and friend of those who were in need. His leadership and dedicated service to COPAA and community will never be forgotten.

“May Allah grant maghfira and eternal peace to the departed soul. May Allah grant him a place in paradise and grant him Jannah-tul-Firdaus. May Allah also enable the bereaved family to sustain this irreparable loss with perseverance and grant them sabrun-Jameel. Ameen!”

Namaz -e- Janaza (funeral prayer) for the late Hamid Malik was held oon Friday, May 25th, at the Islamic Society of Orange County in Garden Grove. Khatam-Ul-Quran was held on Sunday May 27th, between Asar and Maghrib prayers at ISOC.

The death of Mr Hamid Malik was widely mourned. A record number of community members and high ranking officials attended his funeral and participated in the Soyem. Many individuals and organizations paid tributes to his services and expressed condolences with the Malik family on his sad demise.

Developments in Literacy: “The DIL US Office and the Board Members of the Los Angeles Chapter of DIL would like to offer their condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Mr. Hamid Malik upon his unexpected and untimely passing,” said a DIL message. It added:

Mr. Hamid Malik was a great philanthropist and committed advocate of many causes including the advancement of education in Pakistan through his dedication to Developments in Literacy (DIL). He has been a long-time supporter of DIL’s efforts and is well remembered as an important part of the organization’s progress.

“Hamid was the CEO of Amtrend Corporation, Commercial Furniture Manufacturer, and has worked with several US senators and congressmen to forge relationships between the Pakistani-American communities. He was a board member and former president of COPAA (Council of Pakistan American Affairs) and always played an important role in his community. He is survived by his wife Javeeda Malik and three children, Najia, Shawn and Waseem.”

Pakistan Arts Council of Pacific Asia Museum: The Board Members of Pakistan Arts Council of Pacific Asia Museum stated in a message: “Mr. Hamid Malik was a steadfast supporter of many causes including the promotion of arts and culture of Pakistan. Pakistan Arts Council was a beneficiary of his generosity on many occasions. He was the CEO of Amtrend Corporation, Commerical Furniture Manufacturer, since 1980. A natural leader, who was a visionary and active member of the community for several decades, Hamid worked closely with many US Senators and Congressmen to build relations between the Pakistani-American communities and enhance the economic and educational opportunities for Pakistanis.

“He was an integral part of COPAA (Council of Pakistani American Affairs) as board member and a former president, a board member of the Coastline Community College Foundation, and significantly involved with the Los Angeles and Orange County Sheriff’s Departments for their community outreach programs. He was a graduate of S.M. College, Karachi, Pakistan. He is survived by his wonderful wife Javeeda Malik and three children, Najia, Shawn and Waseem.”

Pakistani American Forum-Merit Grants for Young Women: The Board Members of Pakistani American Forum-Merit Grants for Young Women (MGYW) are deeply grieved by the sudden demise of Mr. Hamid Malik on May 23, 2012. Hamid Malik was a highly respected member of the Pakistani-American community who, through his humanitarian and philanthropic endeavors, strived tirelessly to bridge the gap between Pakistanis and other communities. He always tried his level best to positively project Pakistan and show its human face to the world, especially to Americans. He and Javeeda Malik were one of the most solid and financial supporters of MGYW, especially during the early years when MGYW needed the most encouragement.

Hamid Malik, you will always remain close to our hearts. May Allah give strength to Javeeda and children to bear this loss.

Safeer e Pakistan: Safeer e Pakistan’s entire team and staff is deeply saddened and grieved by our dearest brother, a community Icon, Hamid Malik’s sudden death yesterday in New Port Beach, California. Hamid Malik was a dearest brother, friend, a true community leader and an icon of Pakistani American community. He was loved and respected by everyone, young, old, men, women, children, all his family members, friends, peers, mentors and thousands. Hamid Malik was one individual who kept the community members close to each other and always at the forefront sharing everyone’s concern, problems, grief and more. He was always at forefront supporting all causes related to Pakistan, America and mankind. He was a generous person helping everyone and never turned anyone away from his doorsteps empty handed. He helped raise thousands of dollars for flood and earthquake victims in Pakistan, donated to hundreds of charities, Islamic centers, education, media and many other social, religious and educational causes. He was also at the forefront in supporting political campaigns and held numerous fundraisers for Sheriffs of LA and Orange County, congressmen, senators, Mayor, Council members and others at his residence. His contribution to all causes is unmatched and unparralleled. He was a very generous and caring human being. God had blessed him with a kind heart and immense compassion. He was a great supporter and loyal follower of Safeer e Pakistan and was also there when needed. He was an extremely kind hearted and generous person. His lively nature and fun-loving personality made everyone want to live forever…

May Allah grant him a place in Jannat (Heaven). May Allah give his family patience and fortitude to bear this great loss. His passing away will leave a vacuum in the SoCal Pakistani and Muslim community. His efforts to help Pakistanis and build bridges of understanding will be his permanent and ever-lasting legacy.

Hamid will be deeply missed by everyone at Safeer e Pakistan.
