SCMCO Organizes Second Joint Masjid Table Tennis Tournament

On March 23- 24 over 160 players from 30 mosques and institutions from all over Southern California participated in the “Second Joint Masjid Table Tennis Tournament 2013” held at the at Joseph Bae Table Tennis Club in Santa Ana.

The tournament was the fifth mega event organized by SCMCO to bring the Muslim community together through social activities.

 The Tournament offered contest in the following categories:

  1)  Brothers Singles, Brothers Doubles

  2)  Sisters Singles, Sisters Doubles (All Ages)

  3)  Brothers Under21 Singles, Brothers Under21 Doubles

  4)  Sisters Under21 Doubles

  5)  Seniors Over 65"

On March 23 rd all Sisters events, Brothers under 21 Singles and Over 65 were held. The tournament started at 9:30 am and the ping pong balls continued flying back and forth between players until the evening on Saturday.

Player’s enrollment was conducted by Sister Asmaa Aly and Sister Najma Hyder.

Rules and Regulation Committee members Alam Akthar, Amjad Naqvi, Mohtesham Shah and Arif Hyder explained the rules of engagement. Alam Akthar was the Event spokesman.

SCMCO Chairperson Dawar Naqvi opened the proceedings with a warm welcome to the players and audience. He thanked all volunteers and his organizational team who worked tdiligently to bring the community together.

Lunch was served to all volunteers and players. Salat was performed on regular basis.

Sheikh Yasser Kassem, Hafiz Shabeer Mumtaz and Brother Baber Mumtaz led the prayers. Brother Ayaz Kaleemullah organized the congregational salat timings.

In his speech Dr. Ahmed Soboh from the Chino Valley Islamic Center said it was gratifying to see all masajid together. He praised the organizers for organizing such a unifying event.

The event concluded with SCMCO Chairperson Dawar Naqvi thanking everyone for their contribution and support. He expressed gratitude to Allah SWT for the success of the event. He also expressed his thanks to several individuals for their wholehearted support, including Sister Asmaa Ally, Sister Najma Hyder, Brother Amjad Naqvi, Brother Alam Akthar, Brother Arif Hyder, Brother Mohtesham Shah,  Brother Firoze Mustafa, Brother Hany ElHanbaly and more. SCMCO congratulates the Table Tennis Tournament Winners. The results are as follows:

Brothers Singles:

1st place: Syed Amjad Naqvi (OCIF)

2nd place: Eyad Aljaal (Masjid Alansar)

3rd place: Nabeel Abu Hijleh (OCIF)

           & Ali Basit (ISYP)

Sisters Singles:

1st place: Julia Aboul Hosn (OCIF)

2nd Place: Suhad Obeidi (MPAC)

3rd place: Emaan Amjad (OCIF)

           & Ruqaiya Umarji (ICN-Granada Hills)

Brothers Under 21 Singles:

1st place: Zohaib Salim (ISCN)

2nd place: Usman Alam (ISOC)

3rd place: Yusaf Khan (ISCN))

           & Hunain Riaz (ISOC)

Sisters Under 21:

1st place: Zeina Elhanbaly (OCIF)

2nd place: Emaan Amjad (OCIF)

3rd place: Zahra Elhanbaly (OCIF)

           & Sama Basit (ISOC)

Brothers Doubles:

1st place: Mohtesham Shah / Ali Basit (ISYP)
