Pakistani Immigrant to Canada Appointed Citizenship Judge

Los Angeles, CA: Mr Rafiq Rokerya, a first generation Pakistani who migrated with his parents and family to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in the early seventies, was appointed as  Citizenship Judge in an official robing ceremony in Toronto on July 9th 2013. 

The colorful ceremony was attended by Chief Judge George Springate; Her Worship Hazel McCallin Mayor of Mississauga; Brad Butt, Member of Parliament; Senator Salma Attaullah Jan; Nafees Zakaria, Consul General Pakistan; Osborne Barnwell, guest speaker and other Government officials and dignitaries; family members,  close friends, community leaders and new Canadian citizens.

 

Mr Rokerya, who had a penchant for community and public service at large as a youth, worked with Canada Revenue Agency, formerly Revenue Canada, as Audit Manager; he also served as Vice Chair Mississauga  Appeal Tribunal  and Chair of Election Finance Committee  for the city of Mississauga. He is a member of the audit compliance committee for Peel Dufferin School Board. He speaks both official languages of Canada - English and French.


Mr Rokerya was awarded Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. He was also given the highest award of Fellowship Designation FCGA by the Certified General Accounts of Canada as well as the Ontario Distinguished Service Award for his services to the community, profession and country.


Honorable Judge Rafiq Rokerya is the younger brother of Mr Hussain Rokerya of Los Angeles, California.
