Indiana’s 2015 Golden Hoosier Award for Dr Shahid Athar
On May 18, Dr Shahid Athar received "The Golden Hoosier", the highest civilian award by The State of Indiana, from Lt Governor Sue Ellspermann and Dr David Warnert, Director of FSSA at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Said the Lt Governor in a message to Dr Athar:
“Congratulations! It is my honor to inform you that you have been selected as a recipient of Indiana’s 2015 Golden Hoosier Award.
“The Golden Hoosier is the highest honor bestowed upon a senior citizen by the State of Indiana. The Golden Hoosier Award is a collaboration between my office and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Aging to acknowledge unsung heroes who serve other Hoosiers. It is not just one act of community service, but rather a lifetime of community service and commitment to serving others, that we honor today.
“You with your nominee and guests are invited to a reception on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. We will be offering a tour of the Statehouse that day at 10:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. We will have hors d’oeuvres and refreshments starting at 11:00 a.m. followed by a ceremony at 11:30 a.m.
“Again, I am honored to be the first to congratulate you on being selected to receive the 2015 Golden Hoosier Award. It is individual Hoosiers who make Indiana great; and people like you who are moving our state forward every day. I look forward to meeting you on Monday, May 18 th.”
