SC restores Ejaz Ch as MNA

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed an Election Tribunal decision and restored Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry as a member of the National Assembly. The election tribunal had disqualified Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry as MNA on an application moved by his rival candidate Mumtaz Khan Tarar for allegedly holding a fake degree. Tarar had filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the election tribunal’s decision. A three-judge Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali, took up the appeal for hearing on Tuesday. Appearing on behalf of Ejaz Chaudhry, Advocate Khawaja Arif told the court that the degree held by his client was not fake and that the institution from where he had obtained the degree was still an approved and accredited institution. He therefore prayed to the court the stay order be issued against the tribunal’s decision.
