ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that India cannot close the doors to talks no matter which party comes into power.
Whichever government comes in India could neither turn away from talks nor shut the doors to dialogue, because people of both the countries wanted peaceful relations, he said. “They also want all the problems to be addressed through dialogue. Therefore, if Narender Modi comes into power, he will have to follow the footsteps of former prime minister Attal Behari Vajpayee, and he cannot escape from talks,” he said in an interview quoted by the Indian media.
Breakthrough in terms of bilateral relations was achieved during the BJP-led government, he said, adding that result-oriented talks on the Kashmir issue could be held with the new Indian government.
“It will be premature to make any prediction about Narendar Modi,” he remarked.
“We are keeping a watchful eye on Indian polls and a definite opinion can be given only when the electoral process is completed,” he said.
Sartaj Aziz said that if any accord on the revival of peace was reached between the two countries, “certainly a breakthrough can be achieved”.Courtesy www.dailytimes.com.pk
