SPs told to check ‘rising’ street crime

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ch Shafique Ahmed has directed all divisional superintendents of police (SPs) to identify crime-prone areas in their respective jurisdiction and immediately enhance patrolling in these pockets in order to control the rising incidents of street crime.
He also directed SPs to personally patrol these areas to check patrolling by the personnel of the QRF (Quick Response Force) and Muhafiz squads.
The CCPO issued these directions in a meeting at Qilla Gujjar Singh Police Lines on Saturday. Investigation Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Zulfiqar Hameed, Operations DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar and other senior officials attended the meeting.
The CCPO directed the divisional SPs to prepare lists of personalities, who could potentially fall prey to target killers, and provide them foolproof security.
The CCPO was informed that during the first three months of 2014, the police have arrested over 700 robbers and dacoits of 395 gangs and recovered stolen property and illegal weapons amounting to Rs650 million from them. He was also informed that over 7,000 proclaimed offenders and court absconder were arrested during this period. The CCPO directed the police officers to expedite their campaign against proclaimed offenders. He said that it must be ensured that all officers from the rank of station house officer (SHO) to the SP were on the road from 6pm to 10pm to control street crime.
