Nawaz, Zardari discuss PPO, peace talks

Two leaders also discuss anti-terrorism laws and Karachi operation

ISLAMABAD – Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House.

A private TV channel reported that the two leaders discussed different issues including dialogue with Taliban, Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO), security and the political situation during their one-on-one meeting.

Nawaz and Zardari also discussed the ongoing security operation in Karachi and anti-terrorism laws. Prior to the one-on-one meeting, the two leaders held delegation-level talks in which Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Khurshid Shah, PPP parliamentary leader Senator Raza Rabbani and PPP leader Murad Ali Shah participated.

Raza Rabbani told journalists that the reservations of the Pakistan People’s Party and other opposition parties over the protection ordinance were conveyed to the prime minister. The former president was awarded a warm welcome by Nawaz Sharif upon his arrival via helicopter at the PM House. Later, the prime minister hosted lunch for the PPP delegation.
