KAKUL – Underlining the need to work together in harmony for achieving national objectives, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan’s defence could not be made invincible without wiping out terrorism and building up a strong economy.

Delivering a key-address at the 129th PMA long course passing-out parade at the Military Academy here, Prime Minister Nawaz said that the government would provide all possible resources to the army for making defence impregnable. He said equipping the armed forces with modern technology was the responsibility of the government.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif received Prime Minister Nawaz on his arrival at Kakul. Defence Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif and Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid also attended the ceremony. Addressing the ceremony, Nawaz said credible defence was dependent upon strong economy and democracy. All the institutions have to work together to achieve the common goal of progress, he said.

The prime minister congratulated young cadets and said that their commissioning in the Pakistan Army was a matter of great pride. He called upon them to uphold the prestige of the army through integrity of character and perseverance. “Nation reposes great trust in you, and you have to prove this trust,” he said, adding they should keep in mind the role of officers like General Raheel Sharif and his brother Major Shabbir Sharif who was martyred in the 1971 war.

A large number of senior serving and retired armed forces officers, parents of cadets, foreign diplomats and relatives of graduating cadets witnessed the spectacular parade. Seven of the passed out cadets hail from Palestine and Bahrain. Earlier, the prime minister inspected the parade. He gave Quaid-e-Azam flag to Hamza Company for excellent performance.
