SC dismisses PTI plea against NAB chairman’s appointment

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday dismissed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s petition against the alleged illegitimate appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Major (r) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.
The three-member bench of the SC, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk, heard the petition where Aitzaz Ahsan argued that the opposition leader supported the appointment of NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry and therefore the petition had no legal ground to call it illegal.
He further submitted to the apex court that the president had no choice but to implement the advice sent to him by the leader of the opposition.
He continued that if Imran Khan wanted to change the NAB chairman – as according to him Zaman has been appointed in violation of Article 6 of the NAB Ordinance – then he should take the matter through legislation in the National Assembly.
Khwaja Haris submitted to the apex court that consultations between the leader of the parliament and leader of the opposition were mandatory as per law.
After hearing arguments, Justice Nasirul Mulk issued a short order, dismissing all petitions challenging the appointment of the NAB chairman.
