Pervez Musharraf shifts to Karachi, for few days
* Former COAS to stay with his daughter * Will be treated at PNS Shifa Hospital
ISLAMABAD/ KARACHI: Former military ruler, Pervez Musharraf, who is standing a trial for high treason, arrived in Karachi on Saturday night through special plane CL-60 from Islamabad, apparently in connection with his medical tests and to visit his immediate family members.
Musharraf, who would be staying at his daughter’s house in Zam Zama Generals’ Colony, Defence, for a few days, touched down in Karachi at around 10:00 pm under stringent security checks.
According to sources, the ex-army chief is scheduled to visit the PNS Shifa, a naval hospital, in connection with his orthopaedic problems and is also expected to meet his family members and close friends.
Military insiders said three different arrangements had been made for Musharraf’s stay in Karachi for the next few days before his return to his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad. These arrangements are reportedly made at the PNS Shifa, at the Karachi Corps Headquarters and at the residence of the former general’s daughter Ayla Raza. “Alternate arrangements have also been put in place from the security point of view, but he would most likely be staying at his daughter’s place,” commented the insiders.
Rumours suggest Musharraf may exit to Dubai via sea route. His departure to the cosmopolitan city from the Capital is also being seen against the same backdrop.
“Such reports are mere speculations and have nothing to do with the reality,” said Musharraf’s spokesperson Major-General (r) Rashid Qureshi, “General Sahib would be back in Islamabad after a few days.” Qureshi did not offer any further details.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed said, “Musharraf was placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) that would not allow his departure by sea, by air or land route. “It is for the courts to decide whether to drop his name from the list,” said the minister, adding there was no restriction on him to move within the country though.
