MULTAN: Punjab Prisons Minister Chaudhry Abdul Waheed Arain has said that the first high-security jail will be functional by June 2014. Talking to journalists at his residence on Sunday, he said that the jail in Sahiwal was in final stages of completion. After its completion, inmates belonging to banned outfits would be kept there, while another jail would be completed in the next fiscal year, he added. He said that these jails were being built as per international standard with a capacity of 2,000 prisoners. Arain said that latest weapons and instruments would be installed at these jails and added that special arrangements had been made to ensure foolproof security at all jails across the province. He said that funds had been released to the Punjab Inspector General (Prisons) for the purchase of latest weapons and security instruments for the jail. He said the Punjab government had decided to release those prisoners who had completed their punishments but were still in prisons due to non-payment of fine imposed on them.
