KARACHI – Barrister Farogh Nasim, counsel for former president Pervez Musharraf, on Wednesday said that the name of his client must be removed from the exit control list as soon as possible.
Talking to reporters after hearing of Musharraf’s plea, the counsel said that mother of the former president was very sick, therefore, he must be allowed to visit his mother in the United Arab Emirates. He said that Musharraf has to undergo medical treatment for his heart disease so time was important in both the cases.
Attorney General of Pakistan Salman Aslam Butt would submit government side rejoinder on May 7. Earlier, the Sindh High Court has adjourned till May 7 Musharraf’s application seeking removal of his name from the exit control list. A two-judge bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Shahnawaz Tariq, heard the case today.
Barrister Nasim and Salman Aslam Butt appeared before the bench and gave their arguments. The Attorney General, who is representing the federal government in the case, was directed to file his formal reply on the plea. However, Salman Aslam requested the court that he should be given at least three weeks for filing of government’s response.
Barrister Nasim opposed the request, saying that no extra time should be given to the government since Musharraf’s mother was critical and hospitalised in Sharjah, and that his client wanted to visit his mother as soon possible. The plea was filed by Farogh Nasim on Monday seeking permission for his client to fly for Dubai to get heart treatment and visit his 95-year-old mother.
The court finally granted two weeks to the AG and directed him to file his written reply on the next hearing on May 7. The case adjourned till the date. Despite Musharraf’s applications, the government has rejected his requests for flying to Dubai. The former ruler is nowadays in Karachi. Reports said Musharraf is getting treatment from the navy's hospital.
