Sri Lankan president arrives in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Sri Lanka’s new president Maithripala Sirisena arrived in Pakistan on Sunday for a three-day state visit, after making his first overseas trip as leader to India.

Sirisena left Karachi this afternoon and is now in Islamabad, greeted by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Islamabad airport.

The two sides will sign a number of Memorandum of Understandings and agreements to promote bilateral cooperation in various sectors with focus on trade.

Earlier, Sirisena arrived in Karachi this afternoon and was greeted by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the airport.

The Sri Lankan President will also be meeting President Mamnoon Hussain to discuss bilateral relations.

The President will host a state banquet in honour of Sirisena.
