ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Navy ship has sailed back for Pakistan after successful evacuation of 147 Pakistani nationals including men, women and children and 36 foreign nationals stranded in Al Mukalla, Yemen.

The foreign nationals include eight from China, five from Philippines, four from UK, two each from Indonesia and Syria, one each from Canada, Egypt, Jordan and UAE and 11 from India.

All the people were safely taken onboard Pakistan Navy ship upon completion of immigration formalities.

Adequate arrangements have been made onboard the ship to ensure safe journey of evacuated people to Pakistan.

According to a press release issued here, the ship reached Al Mukallah on the morning of April 2. However, to ensure safety, Yemeni authorities imposed restriction on movement of personnel from assembly point to port city for embarkation onboard ship due to prevailing security situation in the city. PNS Aslat is expected to enter Karachi port on April 7.

Pakistan has welcomed the Chinese help that ensured the safe evacuation of its nationals who faced problems in leaving Yemen by air.

“As all-weather friends, Pakistan and Chinese cooperation in ensuring safe evacuation of our citizens has also been exemplary,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said.

“To ensure earliest possible evacuation, we enlisted Chinese support, since their ships were already in the region evacuating their nationals from Aden to Djibouti,” she said.
