Pakistan, Sri Lanka agree to increase trade to $1 billion
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Sri Lanka on Monday agreed to enhance bilateral trade to one billion dollars annually. The decision to increase trade was taken following a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.
During a joint news conference, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced that six agreements were signed between the countries which would enhance cooperation in the fields of tourism, sport, shipping, economic development, disaster management and anti-narcotics.
Prime Minister Sharif said Pakistan wanted to maintain good relations with all neighbours and gave special priority to ties with Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan President spoke of his country increasing trade with Pakistan and enhancing people to people contact. President Sirisena also invited Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to resume flights to Colombo.
