ISLAMABAD: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on Sunday said the provincial government was making sincere and steady efforts to hold dialogue with angry Balochi leaders for bringing them into the national mainstream.

“We are working to convince the angry Balochi leaders to resolve their economic, political and cultural issues in a democratic manner through dialogue,” the chief minister said in a TV interview. He said it was not an emotional but a serious and complicated issue, which was imperative to be resolved amicably for achieving lasting peace in Balochistan.

Commenting on Kashgar-Gwadar trade route, Baloch said it should not be made a controversial issue. It should be extended to other areas including Ratto Dero, Quetta and Zhob to enable locals benefiting from an improved communication infrastructure. He said that Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Ahsan Iqbal, would soon visit Balochistan and brief members of the provincial assembly on the trade route.

To a question, he said law and order in the province had considerably improved after the police got training from the army and the required equipment to handle criminals. He said the police had made the travel on national highways safe, adding that the government had ensured all appointments in the Police Department on merit without any political influence or interference.

To another question, the Balochistan chief minister said that his government was giving due attention to uplift the agriculture and livestock sectors for giving a boost to economic activities in the province.
