Ongoing military operation to continue till ultimate peace: COAS

RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif said on Wednesday that Armed Forces would fully eliminate terrorism from across Pakistan to bring about the ultimate peace.

During his visit to Khyber Agency to review progress of ongoing operations Zarb-e-Azb, he said that the nation highly valued sacrifices rendered by Armed Forces and stood united with them. The COAS visited frontline troops amidst ongoing operations in Khyber Agency and reviewed phenomenal progress so far in eliminating terrorists. According to ISPR Director General Maj Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa's tweet on social media, the morale of troops on the frontline was sky high.

General Raheel was briefed that 263 hardcore terrorists were killed after being surrounded from all sides in Tirah and Khyber Agency. Musatil Pass leading to Afghanistan was in full control. Terrorist' strongholds were reduced while fight was now in progress in last few pockets, close to Afghanistan border. Noose was tightened and no escape was being allowed.

In the area infested with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) mostly foreign made, 392 IEDs were neutralized by Special Engineers Unit. Thirty five soldiers embraced Shahadat since start of Khyber-2 operation. The COAS paid rich tribute to supreme sacrifice of the soldiers and appreciated successes. He directed to continue momentum of the operations and take it to logical conclusion. He appreciated tribal brethren for full support to evict terrorists from their areas and asked them not to allow terrorists to return in their areas.
