Nawaz expresses resolve to develop GB

GILGIT: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday expressed his resolve to develop Gilgit Baltistan at par with other parts of the country.

Addressing a public gathering, the prime minister said “I have come here to give you development projects… Nawaz Sharif’s heart beats with people of Gilgit Baltistan,” said he.

The prime minister also announced that his government will establish Baltistan University and a major road to Islamabad.

He announced that upto Rs 2 million will be given to deserving entrepreneurs of the areas while Nagar, Hunza,Khar Ming and Shigar will be given status of districts.

He said meeting of Gilgit Baltistan Council would no longer take place in Islamabad as he himself had come to attend the meeting in the area. “In the past, this meeting took place in Islamabad instead of Gilgit. Meeting should take place where the council is located,” Mr Sharif added.

“Today I have come to talk about development, I am not here to do politics of container and use abusive language as you know I don’t respond to such language,” he said.

He said that thousands of Megawatt electricity will be produced and transmited from GB, expressing the hope that the projects will transform the region.
