President Mamnoon for promoting ties with Nigeria

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday underlined the importance of regular high-level interaction between Pakistan and Nigeria and greater efforts to enhance bilateral trade.

Talking to High Commissioner-designate of Pakistan to Nigeria Lt Gen (r) Agha Muhammad Umer Farooq, who called on him here at the President House, the president called for further efforts towards promoting investment in both countries.

He underscored Pakistani private sector’s keenness for mutually beneficial joint ventures with their Nigerian counterparts in fertiliser, sugar, cement and palm oil sectors. He stressed for increasing the number of parliamentary exchanges and people-to-people contacts between the tow countries for imparting new impetus to bilateral relations in diverse fields.

President Mamnoon emphasised the need for greater efforts to enhance bilateral trade through frequent exchange of trade delegations. He said that Pakistan and Nigeria should take advantage of each other’s expertise in the field of agriculture. He called for exchange of scientists and experts in the agricultural sector and said Nigeria’s expertise could be utilised to impart training to Pakistani scientists in palm oil cultivation and palm oil germ plasm.

He congratulated the high commissioner-designate on his new assignment, and expressed the hope that his appointment would further strengthen Pakistan’s relations with Nigeria.
