PML-N doesn’t believe in politics of containers: PM
* Nawaz says his opponents are adept in art of abusing, telling lies and making false claims, but his politics revolves around using polite language, decency
APPGILGIT: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday said he believed in politics of decency and not that of containers and said the objective of the PML-N government was selfless service for the masses.
Addressing a large gathering here at the Lalak Jan stadium the prime minister also announced setting up of a committee to look into the issue of constitutional status of Gilgit-Baltistan. He said it would be headed by his Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. Prime Minister Sharif said his opponents were adept in the art of abusing, telling lies and making false claims, on the contrary, his politics revolved around using polite language, decency, honesty and devoted services for the welfare of the masses. He said he was verbally abused by his political rivals, but he did not respond to them and rather chose to stay quiet.
The prime minister said he has a special place for the people of area in his heart and said the PML-N government was committed to the uplift of the area and announced Hunza, Nagar, Gharmang and Shigar as new Districts of Gilgit Baltistan. Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Birjees Tahir, PM’s Special Assistant Irfan Siddiqui, Political Secretary Dr Asif Kirmani, Capt Muhammad Safdar, MNA Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Marvi Memon also attended the event. Prime Minister Nawaz said he was here to attend the meeting of Gilgit Baltistan Council that approved the budget for 2014-15, and regretted that in the past the venue used to be Islamabad, which was wrong.
He pledged that he was committed to bring about a positive change in the lives of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly its youth. He mentioned the distribution of the laptops amongst the young students and said he was pleased to see a glimmer of hope and happiness among those who received these to help them in their studies. He directed that the quota for laptops for the students of Gilgit-Baltistan be revised from only 280 to around 1000. Prime Minister also distributed laptops amongst the top students in different disciplines, under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme.
He said more youth from the area would be given an opportunity to get youth loans up to Rs two million, to help them stand on their own feet. He sought ideas from the people about their needs for new roads, schools, hospitals, bridges and said the federal government on its own was initiating several development projects. He said he has directed that quality work be done on the road from Raikot to Thakot so that the entire road length from Khunjerab to Islamabad was of international standard. He mentioned 175 km long Jaglot-Skardu that will be built at a cost of Rs 40 billion.
