Imran Khan terms PM’s GB package as pre-poll rigging

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan lashed out at Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Gilgit Baltistan where he (PM) announced a special package for the uplift of the mountainous region. Khan alleged that the visit of the prime minister to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) was aimed at influencing the election there. Reacting to the visit of the prime minister, Khan said that such brazen pre-poll rigging was absolutely unacceptable. “PML-N must learn essentials of democracy which begin with fair and free elections,” he said. “I strongly condemn Nawaz Sharif’s continuing efforts at pre-poll rigging in Gilgit Baltistan by announcing development package for the region as an electoral gimmick,” he added. The PTI chief noted that this followed his earlier moves to appoint his federal minister as governor GB, a PMLN loyalist caretaker government and election commissioner. He alleged that so far Nawaz Sharif has not been able to rise above cronyism and use of money to buy influence. It is pertinent to mention here that the elections for Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly have been scheduled for May this year.
