Nawaz urges PIA employees to work for its revival

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday asked the employees of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to work hard for reviving the organisation’s glorious past.

In a meeting with officials of PIA’s Air League here at the PM House, the prime minister stressed that a dynamic workforce was required in the PIA to lead the national flag carrier towards progress and development.

He said that the PIA had an immense potential for revival which required consistent efforts. He added that the government being the major stakeholder would always remain committed to achieving this objective. Every employee of the PIA should join hands with the government in its policy of revamping PIA in order to make it a more responsive and profit-earning entity.

PM Nawaz said that $15 million had been provided to the PIA as equity for inducting 15 aircrafts in its fleet on dry lease in order to revive the Corporation. Besides, Rs16 billion had been given to the PIA from the national exchequer as a bailout package. He said that he would visit PIA headquarters in Karachi and seek a detailed presentation on improving its image and service, while reducing its losses.

He was informed that the Air League is currently the representative body of more than 8,000 PIA employees. He congratulated the Air League for taking over the office of Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA) and expressed the hope that the League would work to bring improvement in the Corporation. The union officials apprised the prime minister of various matters relating to PIA and gave suggestions for improvement. Federal Minister for Climate Change Mushahidullah Khan was present during the meeting.

The participants included Muhammad Shamim Akmal Khan, Nasir Mehdi Janjua, Muhammad Usman Khan, Nadeem Raza, Nadeem Shah, Muhammad Rehman Butt, Babar Sanghi, Sher Aman, Arshad Mehmood, Shahid Qureshi, Waqas Nazir, Muhammad Latif Khan, Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi, Muhammad Majid Rafique, Dr Waqar Ali Nuasher, Mian Khuda Dino, Raja Asif Naveed Hussain and Muhammad Hafeez Khan.

The participants also included Ahmed Saleem Butt, Muhammad Kamran Khan, Sadia Sumbal Butt, Malka Ahmed, Rahat Iqbal, Shabbir Ahmed Khan Tareen, Gohar Munir, Mubashir Hussain, Zaigham Sajjad Kayani, Mahmood Ali Bukhari, Mahar Kaleemullah, Muhammad Ayub, Jahangir Khan, Abdul Baqi Barohi, Shazia Afridi, Mussarrat Sultana, Aliul Haq Qureshi, Muhammad Sajid Iqbal, Iftikhar Ahmed, Naseem Babar Sangi, Syeda Sarwat, Yasmeen Jabeen, Sumbal Arif and Maryam Dar.
