Italy helps BSML shine brighter

Ambassador HE Adriano Chiodi Cianfarani, the Ambassador of Italy, hosted a musical evening, Che La Luna, to raise funds for the Bright Star Mobile Library (BSML). Serena Hotel collaborated with the Embassy of Italy to host the concert and dinner, which featured a concert by Italian guitarist and composer, Mr. Carlo Ambrosio.

Ambassador Cianfarani has been a patron of Bright Star Mobile Library which is wonderful initiative that delivers library services to nearly 6,000 young students, from Prep to fifth grade, in 20 schools in rural areas of Islamabad. Most of the children, benefiting from the BSML services, belong to low-income marginalized families to whom access to books of excellent quality is a very enriching experience.

Carlo Ambrosia, a world renowned guitarist, lutanist and composer, has toured the world intensively since 1970, giving over 2,500 concerts all around the world. He has also recorded recitals for radio and television companies as varied as BBC, ORTF, WDR, RAI, RSI, SBS, Radio 3, WABC, NDR and Jules Radio.

A winner of international competitions, Ambrosia has given conferences, lectures and master classes at the Montclair State College (USA), the University of Jyväskylä and the University of Turku (Finland), the Sibelius Akademie (Helsinky), the Conservatory of Istanbul and the Mimar Sinan Universitesi.

His work is highly regarded in artistic and music circles around the world for its remarkable composition and guests were riveted by the original and passionate performance. For the last part of the performance he was joined by local tabla player, Mr. Sarfraz Anwer and the legendary Madam Abida Parveen’s son Mr. Sarang. Together they blended Italian and Pakistani music in a successful fusion of different sounds.

Ambrosia expressed his pleasure at being able to visit and perform in Pakistan for the first time in a career where he has travelled across the world many times. He was grateful to the Embassy of Italy for inviting his to support a cause as important as bringing books to children.

Italian Ambassador, H.E Adriano Chiodi Cianfarani, spoke about Bright Star Mobile Library. “I am very happy to support the noble objectives of Bright Star Mobile Library.” The Ambassador highlighted the importance of education as key for growth and progress of every country. He emphasized that education was one of the top priority sectors of the Italian development cooperation with Pakistan.

The Bright Star Mobile Libraries are committed to improving reading abilities and broadening knowledge horizons of the youth of Pakistan. They bring Urdu and English books to less fortunate children who may otherwise never have had access to libraries. On the night, two brightly painted vans, carrying hundreds of books stood in front of venue and guests were invited to browse through the van’s contents. Neatly stacked shelves displayed hundreds of books, reminding guests of founder Mr. Saeed Malik’s oft quoted mantra, “If you can’t go to a library, a library can come to you.”

While addressing the gathering, CEO of Serena Hotels, Mr. Aziz Boolani, commented, “Serena Hotels are committed to working for the betterment of society, wherever they are located. We are focusing on the Health and Education sector because these are our priority needs. Serena is also actively involved in Sports, Cultural and Adventure Diplomacy Initiatives.”

H.E. Adriano Chiodi Cianfarani and Mr. Aziz Boolani handed over a cheque of Rupees 2 million, 50 thousand to Mr. Saeed Malik, founder and Chairman of Bright Star Mobile Library.
