Panama Papers: PM Nawaz forms Judicial Commission to probe charges
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a televised address to the nation on Tuesday night announced to form a Judicial Commission to probe ‘allegations’ being faced by his family members in the wake of Panama Papers leak.
The PM said the one-judge Judicial Commission will be headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister took the nation into confidence over how his father started his business before the formation of Pakistan and his continued struggle during the ups and downs that he and his business had to face in the following decades.
He clarified that his sons – Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz – started their own business abroad with the help of proceeds received from the sale of a steel factory set up in Saudi Arabia during the years of exile following the toppling of his government in 1999.
PM Sharif said the Judicial Commission will come to a decision after conducting an investigation to ascertain how substantial the allegations are.
He advised those who were hurling allegations at him and his family to approach this Judicial Commission.
The Premier said those who carry out trade through corruption do not set up businesses under their own names.
He said some elements pursuing a political agenda were targeting him and his family members.
