Protest movement in Thar soon against girl’s abduction

Sindh police asked to take action against abduction of underage Parma Bheel of Nikno village

MITHI – Activists of peace and human rights on Sunday warned the government that they are planning to launch a protest campaign in Sindh against the kidnapping of Hindu girls in Thar and other parts of the province.

Addressing a press conference, Sindh Rural Partners Organisation chief Zahida Detho, Advocate Qeemat Rai, Hajani Lanjo and Nasir Ali Panhwar strongly condemned the recent abduction of young girl Parma Bheel from Nikno village near Islamkot town. “Some influential people are behind the kidnapping,” they said.

They demanded of the Sindh Police chief to take notice and order the special police team to recover the underage girl. They also said that a girl might be forced to convert since the accused persons were politically influential and were threatening the victim family to withdraw police case against the five accused.

The activists asked the police to deal the accused under the newly-enacted Hindu Marriage Act. They showed their concerns on activities of some banned religious outfits and establishment of the unregistered seminaries in the Thar region. Detho and other activists said they were soon launching a protest movement in Thar to mobilise the common people.

“Due to criminal silence of Sindh government, Thar is becoming a safe haven for extremists who are creating communal disharmony in the region,” they observed.
