GAKHAR MANDI - Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid on Saturday said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had been demanding formation of an inquiry commission under the serving Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and today he is running away from it.

Talking to journalists at a sports event here, the minister said till yesterday Imran believed the commission would not be formed, but he was proved wrong yet again. “We had no fear, so we formed the commission. No document in the world accuses Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of any wrongdoing,” he said, adding, however, that Imran seems to be fearful of the commission.

He said Imran does not recognise any authority, not even that of the Supreme Court. “Is there any civilised country that doesn’t acknowledge the authority of Supreme Court or the Election Commission,” he said. Pervaiz said it appears Imran has not even read the terms of reference (TORs) of the new inquiry commission. Or perhaps the new lawyer of Imran has not gone through the TORs, he said.

He said the existing judiciary is one that was reinstated as a result of a movement and it will bury the politics of accusations. “That is the reason why Imran is fearful of this commission,” he said. Pervaiz said when Imran took to the streets in the past he was alone and he will face the same fate even this time around.

The minister said Imran is supporting his relative Zack Goldsmith in London’s local government elections instead of his competitor who is a Pakistani.
